Behind the Camera

I’m James, a wedding photographer documenting candid, emotional, and joy-filled celebrations across Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland.

Your Wedding, as it Actually Felt.

Not Just as it Looked.

My approach is documentary at heart - quiet observation, genuine connection, and letting the day unfold exactly as it was meant to. I’m not here to direct every moment or interrupt the rhythm of your day, although I do when it is much needed during portrait time. I believe the most powerful images come from what’s real: the nerves, the joy, the little glances and gestures that happen when no one thinks a camera is watching. I’m there to blend in, not take over - to tell the truth of your wedding as it actually happened.

Yeah, I’ll photograph the kiss - but I’m watching for the unscripted stuff: the trembling voice during vows, the side-eyes during speeches, and your grandma dancing like she’s twenty again. That’s where the heart lives.

Hi, I'm James

Before I tell your story, here’s a little of mine

I started out in architecture, chasing symmetry, structure, and straight lines. But I got tired of drawing buildings and wanted to be around life. So I left the desk job and picked up a camera, diving into the messy, beautiful chaos of weddings. Because where else do you find it all? Music. Dancing. Laughter. Incredible food and drink. Family, friends, love, mayhem, everything that makes being alive worth it.

After some hard goodbyes, I came to understand the value of photographs. Not the stiff, posed kind, but the ones that capture who someone truly is and how it felt to be there. That is what I chase, real moments that stay with you. The kind you will look back on years from now and say, “Yep, that was us.”

Easygoing with a plan

Think photojournalist meets friendly cat herder.

My photography is about the full story. You two, of course, but also everyone who showed up to celebrate. The loud friends, the emotional parents, the cousins you have not seen in years, the ones crying during vows and the ones running up the bar tab.

I take a documentary approach, focusing on real moments as they happen. No awkward posing, no overly curated scenes, just honest memories of the people you love most. Because years from now, it will not just be about how you looked, but how it felt to have everyone in one place.

"His candid shots are second to none, and he captures the personality of your guests like he's known them for years."

James loves to work with couples with 'character', so if you're looking for someone to pick up your upbeat quirky nature on film, yet also capture beautiful formal shots as well... he's your man!

"Our photos are absolutely gorgeous and will be a family heirloom for generations to come."

He was flexible and communicated with us before the wedding, answering any questions I had as the bride, and on the day of the wedding he got every photo that I had requested and so many more memorable moments.

"He really meshed with our elegant romantic theme to our wedding."

We were having a multicultural wedding with a Vietnamese betrothal ceremony before our American wedding ceremony and James captured the cultural and spiritual aspects of both ceremonies very nicely.
